Technology, process and procedure Other key learnings include: -Looking at the benefits and challenges of PIMS -Assessing the need for a pipeline integrity management system Dennis Keen has 34 years experience in the oil and gas industry, 31 of which have been associated with pipelines. Commencing work in 1975 with British Gas as a graduate trainee he worked initially on onshore gas distribution and transmission pipelines before moving into offshore pipeline IRM in 1981. In 1988 Dennis joined the UK Department of Energy, Pipelines Inspectorate where he lead a team of engineers overseeing the offshore pipeline operators safety improvement proposals in response to the incident. In 1992, the Inspectorate was transferred to the UK HSE and Dennis moved to Aberdeen, where he recruited and managed a team of 6 pipeline inspectors responsible for regulating pipeline legislation in the northern North Sea and onshore in Scotland. In 1997 Dennis left the HSE and joined Andrew Palmer and Associates (now a part of Penspen Limited) where he continues to work. He specialises in integrity management and health, safety and environmental work. During his 12 years with APA he has prepared, implemented and audited Pipeline Management Systems, performed risk assessments, chaired HAZIDs and HAZOPs, conducted accident investigations, prepared legal documents, completed pipeline Decommissioning Plans as well as managing pipeline design projects, all for a range of clients.
